Union Township

Union Township, New Jersey is a great small city for a family to live in and to be raised in. According to the August 2008 issue of Money Magazine, Union Township was voted the 75th best place to live in its list of Americas Best Small Cities. Union also has an interesting history, good schools, many stores and restaurants, good transportation, and a population of 54,062.
What makes Union so intriguing when it comes to its history is that it was the site of a battle in the Revolutionary War. The battle of Connecticut Farms was one of the last battles between American and British forces in 1780. That is why many of the ten schools in Union are named after historic figures. The schools in Union Township are the following: six elementary schools from grades K-4 are Battle Hill School, Hannah Caldwell School, Connecticut Farms School, Franklin School, Livingston School and Washington School. Central Five- Jefferson School is an all 5th grade school. There are two middle schools, Burnet and Kawameeh Middle School that are both for 6-8 graders. Lastly, there is Union High School which accommodates students from grade 9-12. In addition to these ten public schools, Union is also the home of Kean University, St. Michael and Holy Sprit Roman Catholic School, and The Deron School, a private school for children with disabilities.
A logical reason as to why Union has ten schools is because of the size of the town and its ten sections: Five Points, Brookside Heights, Vauxhall, Union Center, Putnam Manor, Parkside Manor, Orchard Park, Larchmont, Green Lane and Fairway Drive. Intertwined in these ten sections, there are many networks of transportation available. There is the Garden State Parkway, Rt. 22 and 82, and Interstate 78. Union Township also has bus services to NYC and a train station across from Kean University. Union also has many shopping centers and restaurants of all different cuisines.
